Job Details:
Multiple openings for the role of “Data Engineering Associate” (the “Associate”), to join and work in the Research Systems Group at Arrowstreet Capital, Limited Partnership (“Arrowstreet”), headquartered at 200 Clarendon Street, 30th Floor, Boston, MA 02116. This would also be the main location out of which these roles will be based. Positions also are permanent, immediately available, job opportunities that do not require any travel.
Note that a telecommuting benefit (i.e., work from home opportunity) is available. In roles like these, resources must be onsite, working at the above-named employer address and headquarters location, at least one day each week. Apart from this requirement, may telecommute and work remotely from home up to four days a week. Note it is currently permissible, however (due to various regulations and policies), to telecommute and work remotely from home in the following five states: Massachusetts; Rhode Island; New Hampshire; Connecticut; or Vermont. Such resources therefore must live in one of those five states. This is because, again, must work at least one day per week from within and as required to be at Arrowstreet’s Boston office (address given above), with remote work from a state specified allowable the remainder of the time.
These positions of “Data Engineering Associate” are in our Research Systems Group (“Research Systems”). Research Systems creates software platforms used in developing investment ideas, codifying those ideas into signals, back-testing the signals, and producing return and risk forecasts based on the signals to drive trading decisions. The primary purpose of the software managed by Research Systems is to produce forecasts that drive trading decisions by utilizing systems that are logically correct, fast, and reliable.
Principal duties and responsibilities of this Associate position include the following: (1) enhance, maintain and normalize high-quality datasets and data systems; (2) apply knowledge of access patterns to make use of external datasets; (3) establish data feeds working with external data vendors and internal infrastructure teams; (4) design and implement ETL, CI/CD and other technical processes, including to ensure quality and availability of data; (5) build new database and distributed system functionalities, using Python and other tools, while also performing schema and database design, data normalization processes, and applying ACID properties; (6) explore the adoption of modern data technologies and optimize queries; (7) develop accurate metrics to identify performance improvement opportunities; (8) develop verification plans and implement unit tests to validate correctness and performance of solutions; (9) use and apply data structures, algorithms and design patterns; and (10) use the Structured Query Language (“SQL”) tool.
Positions require a Bachelor’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in computer science, information systems or technology, applied mathematics, computer or electronic engineering, or related discipline. Also requires knowledge, demonstrated through coursework, of all of the following: (a) using and applying data structures, algorithms and design patterns; (b) building database and distributed systems, including using Python; (c) performing database design, data normalization, and applying ACID properties; (d) engaging in schema design, optimizing queries, normalizing datasets, and performing both ETL and CI/CD processes; and (e) using SQL.
