Multiple openings for the role of “Associate, Quantitative Developer” sought to join the Research Group at Arrowstreet Capital, Limited Partnership (“Arrowstreet”), headquartered at 200 Clarendon Street, 30th Floor, Boston, MA 02116. This would also be the main location out of which the roles will predominately be based. Positions are permanent, immediately available, job opportunities that do not require any travel to client or customer sites. Telecommuting benefit (i.e., work from home) is available. While some telecommuting from home is permitted, note that due to various regulations and policies, it is currently permissible to work remotely only from Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Vermont, and New Hampshire; therefore, such resources must live in one of those five states. Those in these positions are required to be in Arrowstreet’s Boston office (address given above) 2 days per week, with remote work allowable 3 days per week. Positions of “Associate, Quantitative Developer” are not supervisory roles, and therefore, do not directly supervise or manage subordinate, direct reports. Positions are hands-on, individual contributor roles responsible for software engineering techniques and development.

These positions of “Associate, Quantitative Developer” (“Associate”) are in our research group (“Research”). Research is responsible for developing, maintaining, and enhancing Arrowstreet’s investment models which produce forecasts of returns, risks, and transaction costs. These responsibilities encompass a quantitative research team that is tasked with coming up with investment ideas, codifying those ideas into signals, back-testing the signals, and producing return, risk and trading cost forecasts based on the signals to drive trading decisions. Research also includes a quantitative development team that is responsible for the tools, libraries, and software engineering techniques to support faster generation, evaluation, and production-ization of investment ideas. Finally, Research manages the production and validation of Arrowstreet’s forecasts on an ongoing basis.  These roles specifically leverage agile methodologies and apply best practices while developing software solutions. Associates working on the quantitative development team within Research are responsible for building Arrowstreet’s next-generation Research data platform leveraging open-source, cloud, and distributed computing technologies. Individuals in these roles support and work on high-impact projects that are quickly adopted and drive change across the team. Principal duties and responsibilities include the following: (1)writing and maintaining Python and R code to support the investment research production processes; (2) designing and creating software to enhance the data science technology stack; (3) performing ad-hoc exploratory statistical analysis across multiple large complex data sets from a variety of structured and unstructured sources by utilizing analytical, quantitative and problem solving skills; (4) implementing performance improvements for data analysis and programming code; (5) executing POCs to evaluate new technologies and libraries in the PyData ecosystem; (6) staying up-to-date on the PyData ecosystem and evaluating new libraries and tools; and, (7) collaborating with software engineers to design feeds for new data sources from third-party vendors.

Full-time positions requiring a Bachelor’s degree, or a foreign equivalent, in a quantitative or financial field (including mathematics, finance, economics, mathematical finance, operations research, financial engineering, computational finance, computer science, computer engineering, or a closely-related discipline). Also requires knowledge, demonstrated through coursework, of the following: (a) implementing production-grade Python code for data analytics; (b) probability and statistics, including linear regression and time-series analysis; (c) programming paradigms using OOP, and data structures, and algorithms; (d) utilizing visual elements for graphical representation of information and data; and, (e) programming skills in Python with Pandas and NumPy.
