Job Title: Barn Production Supervisor I

Coordinate and supervise day-to-day activities in assigned area (barn through restrainer) to ensure efficient production of wholesome quality products, the safety of our staff, and ensure that employees follow established rules and procedures. Ensure only authorized personnel are in assigned area. Reports to Harvest Supervisor.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Supervise employees in assigned area to maintain and/or improve operating efficiency.
  • Follow, monitor, and enforce all:
    • AFG, AMI and USDA humane handling policies and procedures.
    • Safety rules, housekeeping, proper operation of equipment, and proper safety equipment usage and safety practices.
    • Food safety, good manufacturing, and SQF rules.
  • Maintain adequate crewing, work quality, and productivity in assigned area to meet production requirements.
  • Teach and demonstrate companys commitment to safety, quality of work, and humane handling procedures.
  • Participate in plant management and operational meetings; conduct line meetings.
  • Update, maintain, and/or process required paperwork.
  • Conduct employment actions in accordance with EEO/AA guidelines (hire, selection, promotion, demotion, transfer, termination, etc.)
  • Evaluate department work performance, provide job performance feedback, and/or take corrective action. Take disciplinary or termination action in accordance with company standard practices and procedures.
  • Assist with employee development as it pertains to acquiring job skills, proper protective equipment use and care, proper company procedures and practices etc.
  • Suggest and/or develop improved processes and production methods.
  • Report any egregious or inhumane animal handling activity to supervisor immediately.
  • Establish and maintain a professional and effective relationship with the USDA.
  • Coordinate activities and communicate regularly with QA Manager, Cattle Buyer, cattle haulers, Rabbinical staff, USDA, and other management staff.
  • Assist to load and unload cattle trucks, verify counts, and/or auditing.
  • Ensure conditions of pens, gates, and water troughs are maintained in accordance with AMI and USDA guidelines.
  • Responsible for ensuring skid steer equipment is properly inspected, maintained, and safe to operate.

Knowledge, Skills, and Ability:
  • Must be able to work with slow, challenged or dead cattle; have ability to use pneumatic/captive bolt stunner as needed.
  • Ability to attend work consistently.
  • Display a strong work ethic and a professional attitude and appearance.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and maintain recordkeeping in English, however bilingual English/Spanish is preferred.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills required.
  • Must be able to withstand long periods in warm or hot environments.
  • Considerable knowledge of harvest process and work requirements.
  • Ability and willingness to instruct, coach, and lead others effectively.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Education, Training, and Licenses:
  • Diploma/GED required. Associate or Bachelor degree in Business Management preferred.
  • 3-5 years of experience in harvest preferred.
  • Previous experience leading/training/supervising employees desired.
  • Good computer skills; ability to use designated programs including Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook).
