Group Publishing, Inc.
History:
In the early '70s Thom Schultz was wearing plaid bellbottoms. He was also a real youth leader with a real challenge: How can we be better at helping teenagers experience a genuine, life-changing relationship with Jesus Christ?
Thom saw a need a gaping, yawning, scratch-your-head need. So in 1974 he took a typewriter, a spare room, and five hundred bucks, and dived into exploring new ways to help people experience God's love.
He started GROUP Magazine a daring, grassroots newsprint publication loaded with ideas for youth leaders. In 1977 Group began its annual youth Workcamp volunteer service program and published its first book: The Best of Try This One. Fifteen years later saw the introduction of Children's Ministry Magazine and Group's first Sunday school curriculum for kids.
Introducing a revolutionary vacation Bible school in 1996, Rev. Magazine for pastors in 1997, and the FaithWeaver family of Bible curriculum in 1999, Group continues to provide innovative church resources and thousands of ideas for helping church leaders change lives.
Group's Learning Philosophy
The fact that Group resources actually work is not a fluke. Not a fad. Not a fantasy. They're the real deal. They genuinely help people of all ages know, love and follow Jesus.
How? We do it like Jesus did. We start with the Bible and use creative activities to help people experience God's Word and apply it to life. So when children, youth or adults experience a Group lesson, they don't just hear it. They do it.
We call it the R.E.A.L. approach to learning:
Relational
Group's resources encourage learners to interact with each other, which makes learning more effective AND helps build Christian friendships.
Experiential
With Group's resources, learners don't just listen or read they actually experience the lesson. So biblical principles stick with them up to 9 times longer!
Applicable
Every resource incorporates life application, because Christians should be both hearers and doers of the Word.
Learner-based
Different people learn in different ways, so Group's resources provide a variety of methods to draw people closer to Jesus.
