Seacoast National Bank

Seacoast National Bank Bank Story
Originally chartered in 1926 in Indian River County, Seacoast National Bank is the Treasure Coast's oldest financial institution. With its corporate offices in Stuart and more than $1 billion in assets, it is also the largest bank headquartered in the region.

In the 1920's Stuart had three banks, but by 1932 all had closed, the victims of a collapse in land values, poor management and bank robbers. The community was without a bank until the following year, when local leaders persuaded Dennis S. Hudson to move his bank (then called Citizens and later First National) from Okeechobee to Stuart.

Up until 1977, Florida banking laws restricted individual banks to one location. When the laws changed, Seacoast National Bank started an extensive branch system in Martin County and opened several locations in the growing city of Port St. Lucie.

Foreseeing the increasing competition from large national brokerage and securities firms for the dollars in bank savings accounts and CDs, in 1986 Seacoast founded a full-service brokerage subsidiary called FNB Brokerage Services, Inc.

This added to the bank's lineup of asset management products, along with the bank's trust division, which had been servicing clients for 35 years. Trust and brokerage services, combined with the growing demand for jumbo mortgage lending, led Seacoast to be the first on the Treasure Coast to offer a specialized level of service quality called "Private Banking."
In 1991, Seacoast National Bank acquired the branches of a failed institution and reentered the Indian River County market where it had its original roots. With the Indian River acquisitions, new locations in Port St. Lucie and Fort Pierce, the company was now positioned in all the major metro centers of the three counties comprising the Treasure Coast.

With a wide array of services and an extensive physical delivery system, Seacoast National Bank became the only local bank with the capacity to position itself as a Super Community Bank, engaging in life-cycle partnerships by offering clients a multitude of products and services designed to fill multi-generational needs.

Growing with St. Lucie County
Today, osprey soaring high above can see the massive grid of Port St. Lucie's city streets radiating in all directions. Nearly 100,000 people live in a city that had only 300 inhabitants just 27 years ago. And there are no signs of any slow down to this phenomenal growth.

St. Lucie County has emerged as a regional education center where two universities, a private college and a two-year community college have established campuses in just the last six years.

To meet the needs of St. Lucie County's mass market, the bank has five offices in south Port St. Lucie and St. Lucie West. This network is easily accessible to about 70 percent of the population, offering extended weekday and Saturday hours and drive-through banking.

In addition to using ATMs, customers also may access their accounts with personal computers and touch-tone phones, giving them the ability to move funds between accounts 24 hours a day.

Serving the Commercial Hub of Fort Pierce
As the commercial hub of the Treasure Coast, Fort Pierce services citrus, cattle, dairy and vegetable agribusinesses. In 1996 the city won designation as the Central Florida Foreign Trade Zone, and completing a year of positive business development, the U.S. Department of Agriculture gained funding for a $35 million research laboratory that will be located in Fort Pierce and employ about 150 people.

Fort Pierce's nongovernmental business activity, like that of the rest of the Treasure Coast, is conducted almost exclusively by small businesses and professional firms with sales less than $10 million and fewer than 100 employees. Seacoast National Bank's downtown office in Fort Pierce is principally geared to building partnerships with these same small-business owners and professionals.

The Super Community Bank Expands North
Seacoast National Bank opened five new locations in Indian River County, bringing to seven the total number of offices there. Increasing the bank's presence in Indian River County is a natural progression of the experience we have gained serving Martin County since 1933.

The combination of seven Indian River County locations placed strategically throughout the market area creates the perfect physical delivery system for ready access by residents, professionals and business people alike.

Over the years, the bank has gained valuable expertise meeting the financial needs of its clients. Our success in developing and introducing wealth management, asset accumulation and private asset preservation products has provided us with the tools, the seasoned professionals and the products and services to service all who call this super community home.

The Super Community Bank story continues...
