Background:
CENTURY ENGINEERING, INC. (CEI) founded in 1974 and headquartered in Hunt Valley, Maryland, is an ENR500 full-service, multi-discipline consulting engineering firm engaged in the planning and design of a variety of facilities, structures, and engineering projects to public agencies and various private entities throughout the Mid-Atlantic Region. With over 320 employees in 1986, CEI established its Dover, Delaware office which has continued to grow since its inception. An Elkins, West Virginia office was added in 1998. In August of 2000, CEI acquired an Oakland, Maryland office. CEI acquired Hurst-Rosche in 2003, adding an office in York, Pennsylvania. E2SI was added to Century as a 2006 acquisition. Benatec Associates, headquartered in Central Pennsylvania since 1953, was recently acquired by Century Engineering, Inc.
Today, Century is on the move. We are poised and ready for our growth to continue. We are currently a staff of approximately 400 technical and support personnel consisting of Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Structural, Civil, Landscape Architecture, Transportation and Geotechnical Engineers, Environmentalists, Surveyors, Construction Managers, Inspectors, Technicians, Cost Estimators and Specification Writers.
Our Maryland Headquarters, located in Hunt Valley, was completed in 2006 and is a living example of our commitment to technology and sustainability. This four-story entirely “green” headquarters is home to 125 of our professionals representing each design component of our integrated practice. The 58,000 square feet four level and basement building utilizes natural daylight, exposed mechanical systems, and an open air environment to satisfy the necessary requirements for a LEED Gold Certified rating. Both the shell, as well as the fit out will offer a visual and physical showcase of the value of building “green”.
We also take great pride in our Central PA office, which manifests our values as a company and as individuals. Our building, the former Capital City Airport Terminal, is an adaptive reuse of a National-Register eligible structure and our renovation of the Terminal Building won a 1998 national Phoenix Award as a “brownfields” project. The Terminal and its surroundings provide a fascinating venue for a company that prides itself in both design services and active community involvement. As a landmark “airport” facility, our location alone provides a multitude of opportunities for our employees and their families to enjoy community events.
In line with our tradition of community partnerships, our western Pennsylvania office occupies a new facility in the Uniontown area. We were part of the design team for this new building, which is the keystone for a new technology park and an important part of the economic revitalization of southwestern Pennsylvania.
